Description

Amenities that have just been cleaned can still announce themselves from the corridor. The smell sitting in a washroom is usually bacterial rather than cosmetic, which is why an air freshener buys twenty minutes and then hands the room straight back. Cleaning teams end up walking the round twice and still fielding the same complaint from the tenant.

Tango is an Agar hospital grade disinfectant concentrate that cleans, disinfects and deodorises hard surfaces in the one pass. The transparent green liquid mixes into a working strength for mop buckets and spray application across washrooms, hard floors and fittings.

What happens to the smell

Two things run at once. Surfactants attack and disperse soilage matter so the surface comes up genuinely clean, while a quaternary ammonium compound goes after the bacteria producing the odour at its source. Strong floral and fruity essential oils then cling to the surface and reodorise it through the day, so the room still reads as clean hours after the trolley has moved on.

For a cleaner running amenities in a school, an office or an aged care site, that means one drum on the trolley instead of a detergent, a disinfectant and a deodoriser bought separately. Current manufacturer safety and product documents are linked on this page for your site file and induction paperwork.

Key Features:

Two jobs from the one drum: Mixed weaker it handles the daily amenities round, and mixed stronger it steps up to hospital grade disinfection. You are not buying, storing and tracking two separate chemicals to cover both ends of the week.

The odour source is destroyed, not covered over: The bacteria generating the smell are broken down chemically, so the room does not start turning again the moment the perfume fades. That is the difference between a clean washroom and a perfumed one.

Fragrance that outlasts the shift: The essential oils cling to the surface and keep reodorising it through the day. Tenants and site managers judge a clean by what they smell when they walk in, long before they inspect anything.

Cleaning and disinfecting in a single pass: Surfactants lift and disperse the soil while the disinfecting action does its work, so the wipe down is not a separate job from the hygiene step. On a lightly soiled daily round that removes an entire trip around the building.

Usage Guidelines

Before you start: Pre-clean the surface with a detergent to remove heavy and contaminated soil. Tango goes onto a surface that is already clear of the heavy stuff.

Heavy soil and hospital grade disinfection: Dilute 1 part Tango to 10 parts water.

1. Apply the diluted Tango by spray gun or mop.
2. Leave the surface wet for a few minutes.
3. Rinse.

Low to medium soil and commercial grade disinfection: Dilute 1 part Tango to 50 parts water, which works out at 200ml per 10 litre wringer bucket.

1. Apply the diluted Tango to the surface.
2. Wipe or scrub clean.
3. Rinse with water, or leave the surface damp.

Do not mix: Do not mix Tango with soap, detergents, or other chemicals. Mixing can deactivate the disinfectant action.

Storing a mixed bottle: Diluted Tango placed into a clean, dry bottle and sealed can be stored for up to 12 months. Label the bottle with the fill date.

Keeping a mixed bottle working: Contamination reduces the antibacterial activity, so the bottle needs the same discipline as the chemical.

- Do not top up a part-full bottle with new solution. Use up all of the solution first.
- Do not add anything else to the bottle.
Wash and dry empty bottles before refilling them.
- Discard the solution if any contamination is visible.
- Observe the Use By Date printed on the label, and rotate stock so older product goes out before newer product.

FAQ

Q. Do I have to rinse it off, or can I mop and walk away?

A. You rinse. At hospital grade strength the surface is left wet for a few minutes and then rinsed, and at commercial grade strength you either rinse it or leave the surface damp. The full steps for both strengths sit on the How To Use tab.

Q. What is the difference between hospital grade and commercial grade?

A. The grade reflects how much performance testing a disinfectant has passed and the setting it is meant for, not a different bottle on the shelf. Tango reaches hospital grade at its stronger dilution and commercial grade at its weaker one, so the same drum covers both jobs.

Q. Will bicarb and vinegar do the same job on a smelly toilet?

A. Bicarb and vinegar lift some staining and knock a smell back, and plenty of people run them at home for exactly that. Neither is a disinfectant though, so the bacteria producing the odour go untouched. Tango is a hospital grade disinfectant, and the How To Use tab covers what it cannot be combined with.

Q. The amenities still smell after they have been cleaned. What am I missing?

A. Often the smell is coming from somewhere the mop was never going to reach. A failed wax seal under the pan, a dried out floor waste trap, or urine soaked into unsealed grout will all keep producing odour after a faultless clean. Get a plumber onto the seal and the traps before you change chemicals.

Q. Is the fragrance too strong for an occupied office?

A. It is a strong perfume and it is built to linger, which suits amenities, back of house areas and hard floors far better than a quiet open plan office. If low odour is what the site actually needs, Tango is the wrong pick and we would rather point you at something else.

Safety Information & Environmental Impact

Safety Information.
Personal protective equipment: Wear protective gloves and eye or face protection when handling the undiluted concentrate. Protective glasses or goggles should be worn while the product is being used, and an eyewash facility close to the work area is recommended. Cover all skin areas with impervious gloves, clothing and preferably an apron.

Handling: Keep out of reach of children. Wash contacted areas thoroughly after handling. No special ventilation is normally required, though the work area should be kept clean with vapours and mists kept down.

First aid: Keep the Poisons Information Centre number on hand, 13 11 26 from anywhere in Australia.

- Eyes: immediately flush the contaminated eye or eyes with lukewarm, gently flowing water for 15 minutes while holding the eyelids open. Obtain medical attention immediately. Take special care if contact lenses are being worn.
- Skin: wash gently and thoroughly with water for 5 minutes or until the chemical is removed, using a non-abrasive soap if needed.
- Swallowed: do NOT induce vomiting. Wash the mouth out with water and give some water to drink, then contact a Poisons Information Centre or a doctor.
- Inhaled: no first aid measures are normally required. If irritation develops, move to fresh air and watch until recovered.

Storage: Keep containers of this product tightly closed. Keep it away from oxidising agents and anionic detergents, which are incompatible with it. Keep quantities in work areas to a minimum.

Spills: Minor spills do not normally need any special cleanup measures. For a major spill, wear full protective clothing including eye and face protection, stop the leak where you can do so without risk, contain the spill and keep it out of drains and water courses. Absorb onto sand, vermiculite or another suitable absorbent, then collect into labelled containers for disposal.

Environmental notes: Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects. After a spill, wash the area down while preventing runoff from entering drains, and advise emergency services if a significant quantity reaches a drain.

Disposal: Used solutions go into a drain or trough leading to the sewer system or a septic tank, where the waste can be treated and broken down. Do not pour used solutions into stormwater drains or down driveways, because those drains carry rainwater to the local river system.

Containers: Empty containers as completely as practical before disposal. The bottles and drums are HDPE or PET and can go through kerbside collection or another recycling system, and cardboard cartons should be flattened and recycled.

Dispose of in accordance with local council and regulatory requirements. Do not pour concentrated product down stormwater drains. Refer to Section 13 of the current SDS for disposal requirements.
