Description

Agar Powerquat Surface Sanitiser Commercial Grade

Agar Powerquat is a concentrated quaternary-ammonium based sanitiser designed for commercial kitchens and food processing plants to effectively destroy bacteria, mould, and fungi. This broad-spectrum disinfectant addresses the critical hygiene requirements of industrial environments by providing a powerful germ-killing solution that is stable, odourless, and safe for use on food contact surfaces. It features excellent surface-wetting properties to ensure thorough coverage and can be used as a rinse-free sanitiser at specific dilutions to streamline cleaning workflows.

Key Benefits of Agar Powerquat:

  • Very strong and effective on gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
  • Wide applications in surface disinfection.
  • Effective on bacteria, mould and algae.
  • Odourless to suit food-processing areas.
  • Enables rinse-free sanitising at 1:150.
  • Safe to use on all metal food processing equipment.

Where to Use Powerquat

Powerquat is formulated for use in food processing sectors and general industrial cleaning. It is suitable for:

  • Food Preparation Areas: Commercial kitchens, delis, and butcheries.
  • Processing Equipment: Filling machines, cookers, mixing pans, and conveyor belts.
  • General Surfaces: Floors, tables, walls, and benches.
  • Small Items: Pots, pans, and non-porous cutting implements.
  • Hygiene Stations: Foot baths and drains.

How to Use Agar Powerquat

  1. Preparation: Remove gross soils and debris from the surface before sanitising.
  2. Rinse-Free Sanitising (1:150): Dilute 133ml of Powerquat per 20L of water. Apply to the surface, drain well, and allow to air dry. No rinsing is required.
  3. Heavy Duty/General Sanitising (1:80 to 1:40): For higher contamination, dilute 250ml–500ml per 20L of water. Apply with a mop, sponge, or sprayer. Leave for at least 1 minute. Rinse with potable water.
  4. Soaking Drains: Dilute 1 part Powerquat to 30 parts water (667ml per 20L).
  5. Foot Baths: Dilute between 1:30 and 1:15 (667ml to 1.33L per 20L). Change solution when visibly soiled.
  6. Recirculation (CIP): Dilute 1:30 at 50°C–80°C. Recirculate for 10–20 minutes, then flush with potable water.

Safety and Certifications

Agar Powerquat is a commercial-grade chemical and should be handled with care. It is approved for use under Category 6 by the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) for meat and meat product preparation. While it is low-toxicity, always wear appropriate protective gear (gloves and eye protection) when handling the concentrate. Store the product in a cool area and ensure diluted solutions for food contact are measured accurately to maintain safety standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is this sanitiser safe for food prep benches? A. Yes, Agar Powerquat is specifically designed for food processing areas. When diluted to 1:150, it is suitable for no-rinse application on food contact surfaces, provided they are drained well.

Q. Does it have a strong chemical smell? A. No, Powerquat is odourless, making it ideal for food production environments where strong fragrances are prohibited to prevent food tainting.

Q. Can it kill mould and algae? A. Yes, the quaternary ammonium compound in Powerquat is effective at destroying mould, fungi, and algae, as well as bacteria.

Q. Do I always need to rinse it off? A. Rinsing is not required if used at the specific dilution of 1:150 (0.66%). If used at stronger concentrations (e.g., 1:40 for heavy contamination), rinsing with potable water is mandatory.

Usage Guidelines & FAQ's

RINSE-FREE SANITISING: If POWERQUAT is diluted to 1 in 150 (0.66%) (this is 133ml per 20L of water), it is not necessary to rinse after use, just drain well. [If used stronger than 0.66%, rinsing with potable water is required.]
ROCESSING EQUIPMENT: Dilute POWERQUAT to 1 in 150 (this is 133ml of POWERQUAT per 20L of water) then spray or soak all cleaned surfaces with this solution. Ensure contact for at least 1 minute. Rinsing is not required for this dilution rate but treated surfaces should be adequately drained before processing operations resume.
Dilute POWERQUAT to between 1 in 80 and 1 in 40 (this is 250ml to 500ml per 20L of water) depending on degree of contamination. Apply solution with foamer, sprayer, cloth, mop or sponge. Prevent direct contact with foodstuffs. Leave the solution in contact with surface for at least 1 minute to kill any bacteria.
For soaking of drains, dilute POWERQUAT to 1 in 30 (this is 667ml per 20L of water).
FOOT BATHS: Dilute POWERQUAT to 1 in 30 to 1 in 15 (this is 667ml to 1.33L per 20L of water). Discard this solution when it has become visibly soiled.
Dilute POWERQUAT to 1 in 30 (this is 667ml per 20L of water) and use 1 litre of solution per 50 cubic metres of air volume. (Please note: Fogging should only be done according to a documented procedure that safeguards the personnel and the foodstuffs in the vicinity. Rinsing will be required at this dilution rate.)
