Description

In a working kitchen, cooking equipment picks up a hard, blackened crust of carbon and baked-on grease that builds a little more with every service. Left to set, it starts to smoke off, taints food and drags down the hygiene standard, and shifting it by hand with a scraper eats up time a busy kitchen does not have.

Made for baked-on carbon and grease

Agar Grill Clean is made for that job, and it works chemically rather than by brute force. Caustic potash attacks the fat and burnt-on protein, while the surfactants break up and lift the loosened grease and carbon so it comes away from the surface.

The result is cooking equipment that comes up clean without a full hand strip-down, and the product and safety data sheets are linked on this page if you want to check the detail before you order.

Lifts baked-on carbon with far less scrubbing: Heavy black build-up loosens chemically rather than being scraped off by hand, saving the arm work and the time a grill or oven strip-down usually takes.

Handles soil ordinary kitchen cleaners leave behind: It is built for the hard, blackened carbon and burnt-on grease that general sprays slide over, so one dedicated cleaner does the job instead of two passes.

Fast-acting once applied: It starts breaking down grease and carbon soon after it goes on, keeping equipment turnaround quick during a busy service.

A concentrate that keeps the cost per clean low: Used in concentrated form, a single 5Lt drum makes up a long run of cleans before you reorder, which adds up in a kitchen that cleans down every day.

One cleaner for the whole hot cooking line: The same product works across the range of hot cooking equipment a kitchen runs, so there is no need to stock a separate cleaner for each machine.

Use Agar Grill Clean on:

  • Ovens
  • Grills and hotplates
  • Deep fryers
  • Barbecue plates and outdoor cooking equipment

It works well on steel, stainless steel and enamel. Keep it off aluminium and painted surfaces, and if any lands on aluminium by accident, rinse it off with water before it dries.

Usage Guidelines

Apply Agar Grill Clean with a squirt bottle rather than a spray bottle. Work on warm equipment where you can, but not on surfaces at full cooking heat.

Ovens: preheat the oven to 60 degrees C, then turn it off before you start.

1. Apply Grill Clean neat to the surface and leave it 5 minutes to activate.
2. Loosen the carbon residue with a stiff brush or scraper.
3. Wipe up the dissolved solids with a damp cloth.
4. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.

Grills and hotplates: turn the hotplate off after use and let it cool for about 5 minutes, so the surface is warm but not at full heat.

1. Scrape off the loose food residue, then apply Grill Clean neat.
2. Leave it wet for 10 to 15 minutes to activate.
3. Scrub with a brush, spatula or griddle pad, then wipe clean with a cloth.
4. Rinse well with potable water.
Finish a hotplate by brushing the surface with cooking oil.

Deep fryers: cool and drain the cooking oil first, then part-fill the fryer with cold water.

1. Add Grill Clean at 40ml per litre of water, then fill to the upper oil level and bring to the boil.
2. Simmer until the surface is clean, brushing any greasy surrounding areas with the solution.
3. Drain the solution while running in cold water at the same time, which softens the temperature change.
4. Rinse with clean water to remove all of the solution.

Do not mix: do not mix Agar Grill Clean with other chemicals.

FAQ

Q. Can I use Agar Grill Clean on aluminium?

A. No. Keep it off aluminium and painted surfaces, because it attacks both. Use it on steel, stainless steel and enamel instead, and if any lands on aluminium by accident, rinse it off with water straight away before it dries.

Q. Does a baking soda paste clean a grill as well as Grill Clean?

A. For a light, fresh clean a baking soda paste can lift everyday grease, so it is fine on a home barbecue you wipe down often. It struggles with the hard, blackened carbon that builds up on commercial equipment, which Grill Clean dissolves so the baked-on layer comes away with far less scrubbing.

Q. Is Agar Grill Clean made in Australia?

A. Yes. Agar Cleaning Systems manufactures Grill Clean in Australia, at its plant in Preston, Victoria. Buying it means a locally made commercial cleaner backed by an Australian supplier rather than an imported product.

Q. How long does Agar Grill Clean keep once I buy a 5Lt drum?

A. Kept in its original sealed drum, it stays stable for around 12 months. Store it out of direct sunlight and away from temperature extremes, ideally between 10 and 30 degrees, so a 5Lt drum holds up even if you are not cleaning down every day.

Q. Is Agar Grill Clean overkill for a home kitchen or barbecue?

A. Not if you get real baked-on carbon and grease. It is built for the heavy daily build-up in commercial kitchens, and it works the same way on caked-up equipment at home, as long as you follow the directions and keep it to suitable surfaces. For light, regular wipe-downs a milder cleaner is usually enough.
