Description

Baked-on grease, hardened fat, soot and ground-in grime are the jobs a supermarket spray gives up on. Commercial kitchens, workshops, vehicle bays and outdoor hard surfaces build up heavy soil that a light cleaner cannot shift, and that is where a proper degreaser earns its place in the storeroom.

Agar Dirt-Off is an alkaline, water-based degreaser detergent that comes as a concentrate. Its alkaline action loosens fat, oil, soot and grime so they lift and wash away with far less scrubbing. Because it arrives concentrated rather than as a ready-to-use spray, you dilute it to match the soil in front of you, weaker for a daily wipe-down and stronger for the heavy stuff.

One concentrate for a lot of different jobs

That range is the real reason to keep Dirt-Off on hand. The same drum moves from engine bays and BBQs through to floors, walls, equipment and vehicle bodies, so a cleaning team carries fewer products and still has the grunt for heavy soil. Ordering gets simpler and the storeroom stays tidy.

Shifts the grease other cleaners leave behind: Hardened fat, oil films, soot and ground-in grime lift with its alkaline action, so kitchen exhaust, machinery and engine bays come clean without reaching for something harsher.

Cuts the scrubbing: The alkaline action loosens fat and grime quickly, so most jobs come up with a wipe or a light scrub. Faster soil release means less time per surface and less fatigue across a shift.

One degreaser across the whole site: The same product handles the kitchen, the floors and the workshop, so a contractor can standardise on a single degreaser instead of stocking three. Ordering and staff training both get simpler.

A concentrate that stretches: Diluted right down for everyday cleaning, a single 5Lt drum makes up bucket after bucket before you reorder. For a commercial operation that means a lower cost per clean and fewer deliveries to juggle.

Works by hand or by machine: The diluted mix goes on with a spray, mop or sponge, or runs through an autoscrubber, steam cleaner or pressure washer. It slots into the routines a crew already has without new gear.

Where you can use it: Dirt-Off suits washable hard surfaces, indoors and out.

  • Floors, walls, ceilings, pavements and signs
  • Kitchen equipment, machinery, sinks, cupboards, baths and showers
  • BBQs, ovens and greasy machinery
  • Engine bays, vehicle bodies, train carriages, caravans and awnings
  • Outdoor furniture, car interiors and vinyl upholstery

It works across a range of hard materials, including stainless steel, glass, aluminium, porcelain, plastic and sound paintwork.

Not suitable for: painted surfaces that are in poor condition.

Usage Guidelines

Dirt-Off is a concentrate, so how much you dilute it depends on how heavy the soil is. Mix only what you need for the job and use clean water.

Dilution rates:

Heavy baked-on fat on ovens, BBQs, dirty paintwork and machinery: use neat.
Heavy-duty general cleaning: 1 part Dirt-Off to 20 parts water.
Spray-and-wipe on medium soiling: 1 part Dirt-Off to 30 parts water.
Light soiling and floor scrubbing: 1 part Dirt-Off to 80 parts water.
Pressure washing: 1 part Dirt-Off to 120 parts water.

How to apply: Put the diluted mix on with a spray, mop or sponge and scrub lightly. It can also be run through an autoscrubber, steam cleaner or pressure washer to suit the job.

Finishing off: Once the grease has lifted, rinse the surface off or wipe it clean with a mop or a clean cloth.

Do not mix: Do not mix Dirt-Off with other chemicals unless the label or SDS says it can be done.

FAQ

Q. Will Dirt-Off damage paint or the clear coat in an engine bay?

A. On paintwork that is in good condition, including engine bays, it cleans without harming the finish. Keep it off paint that is already worn, faded or flaking, and rinse it off after cleaning rather than letting it dry on the surface. On a prized finish, it is worth trying a small area first.

Q. Do I really need a degreaser, or will vinegar and bicarb do the job?

A. For light, everyday grease, vinegar and bicarb soda handle it well and cost next to nothing. Once grease is baked on or has built up for months, those remedies start to struggle, and a concentrated degreaser like Dirt-Off lifts it faster with far less scrubbing. Match the tool to how heavy the job is.

Q. Can I use it on kitchen benches and food-prep surfaces?

A. Use it to cut grease off benches and equipment, then rinse the surface well with clean water before any food touches it. Dirt-Off is a degreaser rather than a food-contact sanitiser, so follow it with a proper sanitiser on food-prep areas. Keep degreasing and sanitising as two separate steps.

Q. Is Dirt-Off ready to use or do I mix it first?

A. It is a concentrate, so you dilute it with water to match the job, using it stronger for baked-on fat and well diluted for light cleaning. There is no ready-to-use spray version in this pack. The How To Use tab lists the exact rate for each type of job.

Q. Is it going to stink out the kitchen while I clean?

A. Dirt-Off carries a light perfume rather than the harsh solvent smell many heavy degreasers have, so it is easier to work with in kitchens and other closed-in areas. It is water-based, not solvent-based. The scent clears once the surface is cleaned and dried.

Q. Will it lift oil stains off concrete or a driveway?

A. Yes, it breaks down oil, grease and grime on concrete, pavers and pathways. Put the diluted mix on, give it a scrub, then hose or rinse it off. Older stains that have soaked in may need a second go, and a stiff brush helps on rough concrete.

Safety Information & Environmental Impact

Hazard classification: In its concentrated form, Dirt-Off is classified as hazardous. Signal word: Danger. It causes serious eye damage and causes skin irritation.

Protective equipment: Wear protective gloves and eye or face protection when handling the concentrate, and keep skin covered. Once it is diluted for use, eye and skin protection are not normally needed, though it is still sensible to avoid contact.

First aid: For skin contact, wash with plenty of water and get medical advice if irritation occurs. For eye contact, rinse cautiously with water for several minutes, remove contact lenses if easy to do, keep rinsing, and get medical attention. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting, rinse the mouth and drink some water. In a serious case, call the Poisons Information Centre on 13 1126.

Storage: Keep containers tightly closed and out of reach of children. Store away from strong oxidising agents. Dirt-Off is a Scheduled Poison (S5), so follow the rules for its sale, transport and storage.

Spills: Minor spills need no special measures. For a larger spill, wear protective clothing and eye protection, stop it reaching drains or waterways, and absorb it with sand or a similar material before collecting it for disposal.

Good to know: Dirt-Off does not burn, and it becomes non-hazardous once diluted to around 1 in 6.8 with water or more, which covers normal in-use strengths.

Biodegradability: Dirt-Off is biodegradable and its surfactants break down, so used wash water does not build up in soil or waterways.

Disposing of used product: Pour used wash water into a drain or trough that runs to the sewer or a septic system. Do not tip it into stormwater drains or down driveways, as those run to local waterways.
