Agar Acid Wash Rust Scale and Lime Remover 5Lt

New tiling and rendering jobs often finish with a cloudy grout haze or a film of cement residue that normal cleaning will not shift, and older hard surfaces pick up rust marks and lime scale that build up over time. Agar Acid Wash is a concentrated acidic cleaner that dissolves rust, scale, lime and cement residue so they rinse away, bringing ceramic tiles and hard surfaces back to a clean finish.

How Acid Wash clears rust, scale and grout haze

The acid reacts with mineral deposits and breaks them down, while a detergent in the mix lifts oil and grime off the surface at the same time. Because it works chemically rather than by scrubbing, it takes most of the hard work out of stubborn scale and haze on surfaces that can take an acid.

It is a strong acid, so surface choice matters. Ceramic and porcelain tiles and other hard non-porous surfaces handle it well, but it has to be kept off marble, limestone, terrazzo, concrete and soft metals such as aluminium and zinc, which it will etch. Pre-test a small area, dilute it to suit the job, rinse thoroughly, and one 5Lt bottle of concentrate covers a lot of work.

Clears grout haze from new tiles: After a tiling job it dissolves the cloudy cement film and grout haze left on ceramic and porcelain, so the finish comes up clean.

Strips rust, scale and lime: It breaks down rust marks, lime scale and mineral buildup on hard non-porous surfaces and inside equipment such as dishwashers, urns and pipework.

Concentrated, so it goes a long way: Diluting up to 1:11 for grout haze and around 1:6 for heavier rust and scale means one 5Lt bottle stretches across a lot of jobs.

Lifts oil while it descales: A detergent in the mix pulls oil and grime off the surface as the acid works on the deposits, so one pass handles both.

Cuts the scrubbing on baked-on deposits: Because it dissolves buildup chemically, heavily scaled or hazed surfaces need far less manual scrubbing.

Where Acid Wash can be used:

• New ceramic and porcelain tile floors, to remove grout haze and cement residue after installation.
• Hard non-porous surfaces that tolerate acidic cleaners.
• Rust and scale removal on industrial equipment and machinery.
• Pipes, tanks and boilers that need descaling.
• Commercial dishwashers and hot water urns, descaled then rinsed with clean water before use.
• Construction and renovation clean-up, for cement and grout residue.

Not suitable for:

• Marble, limestone, terrazzo, concrete and cement, which acid will etch.
• Aluminium, zinc, diecast and other soft metal alloys.

Before you start: Always add Acid Wash to the water, never water to the acid. Pre-test a small hidden area first to check the surface can take an acidic cleaner, and wear gloves and eye protection.

Grout haze and cement film on ceramic tiles: Dilute up to one part Acid Wash to eleven parts water. Brush or swab it over the haze and scrub until the film lifts, then rinse thoroughly with water straight away. Do not let it sit on the tiles, or it can etch sensitive surfaces.

Rust, lime and scale removal: Dilute up to one part Acid Wash to six parts water. Brush or swab it onto the deposit and leave it in contact until the buildup dissolves, then rinse off with cold water. Thick deposits may need a second application.

Descaling dishwashers, urns and equipment: Add Acid Wash to the water in the machine or urn, circulate or leave it to stand until the scale clears, then drain and rinse out completely with clean water before the equipment goes back into use.

Finish every job the same way: Rinse the surface well so no acid residue is left behind, especially in grout lines, and do not let the solution dry on the surface.

Handling: Acid Wash is corrosive and causes severe skin burns and eye damage. Wear gloves, goggles or a face shield and protective clothing, and use it in a well-ventilated area. Do not breathe any mist, and do not eat, drink or smoke while using it.

Mixing: Do not mix Acid Wash with other chemicals unless the label or SDS states it can be done, and keep it away from alkaline and oxidising products. Always add the acid to the water when diluting. Keep it in its original container.

First aid: For eye or skin contact, flush with plenty of running water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting, give a glass of water if the person is conscious, and call the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26.

Storage: Store in a cool, well-ventilated place, keep the container closed, and keep it away from soft metals and incompatible materials such as alkalis and oxidisers. Keep out of reach of children.

Environment and disposal: Acid Wash is non-flammable and biodegradable. Do not pour concentrated product down stormwater drains or to sewer. Dispose of in accordance with local council and regulatory requirements, and refer to Section 13 of the current SDS for disposal detail.
